Description

Cinema administrators are in charge of all aspects of the day-to-day supervision of cinemas. They lead cinema operations to ensure and meet the customer needs and achieve revenue targets. They perform their duties utilizing efficient operations which are focused on fair people management systems and standard operating procedures.

Tasks:

  1. Planning, developing and supervising promotional and advertising projects.
  2. Recruiting, training and managing staff.
  3. Collaborating with community representatives to promote film within the local community.
  4. Undertaking administrative tasks; setting shifts and organising staff payment.
  5. Ensuring the venue, facilities and staff meet stipulated health and safety regulations.
  6. Managing budgets.
  7. Dealing with enquires from the press and public.
  8. Ensuring the cinema meets set audience targets each month/year etc.

Key skills for cinema administrator:

  • Passion for film and/or performing arts
  • Good organisational skills
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent time-management and scheduling skills
  • Good communication skills.

Average salary (2013):

The United Kingdom: As a trainee or assistant cinema or theatre manager, you would probably earn around £18,500 to £21,000 a year. As a manager, as you gain experience, you might earn between £25,000 to £50,000 a year.
The United States of America: $36,988 per year

Qualifications and training required:

Any bachelor’s degree is acceptable for a cinema manager position. However, employers may look for graduates who have received training in subjects such as management, business studies, travel, leisure or tourism studies. Although related experience is not usually required, a part-time or vacation cinema work experience can be useful.
