Job seekers use as many sources of information as they can to find a job that corresponds to their qualifications, abilities and references. They post job advertisements on the job sites, social networks and in printed press. Job searchers must also ask friends, relatives and acquaintances if they know about relevant vacancies. The candidate must prepare a professional resume (CV) and motivation letter.

Tasks:

  1. Contacting employers directly to market job searchers talents
  2. Contacting local unemployment governmental agency and finding out about benefits for unemployed people
  3. Sorting through available vacancies on the Internet or in printed press
  4. Writing motivation letters that outline key professional abilities, personal skills and strengths
  5. Learning new skills that can be relevant to desired job position
  6. Practicing talking about oneself, future plans and past achievements, strengths and weaknesses with everyone who will listen
  7. Keeping up with current events and trends in the desired industry of work
  8. Updating resume and cleaning up social media profiles so they are employer-friendly
  9. Staying motivated throughout the whole process of looking for a job

Average salary (2013):

The United Kingdom: Jobseeker’s Allowance is at least £57.35 per week
The United States of America: depends on the state of residence and previous salary
Australia: Newstart Allowance maximum is $510.50 per 14 day

Qualifications and training required:

Anyone can find a job, but employers often prefer candidates with relevant education or work experience. Also important are skills and abilities that can be useful in everyday life - communication skills, time management skills. Employers pay attention to candidates' computer skills, foreign language skills, as well as the personal qualities - self-initiative, responsibility, loyalty, ingenuity, creativity, etc.
To improve chances of quickly finding a job a person can sign up for courses and seminars that develop skills mentioned above. Some countries provide Government-sponsored training courses for unemployed people.
