About school

The mission of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga is to provide a state-of-the-art education in business and economics that contributes to the economic and social development of the region, in particular Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Today this is done through two degree programmes - the original B.Sc. programme and the SSE Riga Executive MBA programme - as well as through various executive education activities. The mission also includes research, and SSE Riga should produce state-of-the-art research of relevance to the Baltic countries and the school should actively participate and foster public debate in its fields of competence.

The School's mission rests on the same four cornerstones as in 1994, each of them of equal importance:
•Academically strong and highly motivated students.
•International students and faculty.
•Independence from the state university system.
•A strong brand name.

Admitting just 120 top undergraduates a year through a rigid three-step admission process, SSE Riga provides an elite learning environment that has a recognized reputation for teaching, learning and applied research. Being a small school with close to 400 students, it takes just a few months to get to know each other through project work, studying together, assisting each other and socializing. The intensive curriculum and a strong international undergraduate group create a vibrant and intellectually challenging study environment at SSE Riga.

Scholarships

SSE Riga Alumni Scholarship Programme

The SSE Riga Alumni Scholarship is an initiative by the Alumni community who are willing to support talented and motivated young people from the Baltics by covering a tuition fee for one academic year of studies. The selection of scholarship recipients is based on financial need and academic potential.

Grants

The Grant Programme provides additional financial resources to students who demonstrate academic achievement and research potential. There are merit-based awards and research assistantship grants available.

Student excellence - that's what we look for! Merit-based award recipients generally distinguish themselves academically and personally within our highly competitive student body. SSE Riga offers merit-based scholarships that are funded by corporate donors. The following grants are available:

Zabolis Partners Awards
Top 2 academic results upon finishing Year 1
KPMG Awards
Academic achievements in Accounting courses
SEB Enskilda Award
Academic achievements in Financial Economics

Kopmītnes

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the SSE Riga Student Residence Hall to facilitate their integration in the student community. We offer newly renovated accommodation that is safe and secure, where students can sleep and study in comfort.

SSE Riga can offer twin rooms with two residence units (two single beds), and triple rooms with three residence units (three single beds) are also available. Students can use a common room on each floor for studies, and there is wireless internet and kitchen facilities.

The dormitories are situated about 20 minutes by bus from SSE Riga. The price ranges from 80 - 100 EUR per month.

Apmaiņas programmas

During the last year of studies students can either stay in SSE Riga and specialize in selected fields, or spend a semester abroad by choosing an exchange program (Erasmus, HESP or bilateral agreements). Undergraduates are encouraged to take this opportunity as it contributes heavily to personal development and ensures a wider professional perspective. Each semester approximately 30 exchange students are invited to SSE Riga, and each autumn 30-40 third year SSE Riga students leave for exchange for one semester.
Erasmus

SSE Riga has an Erasmus University Charter. This gives the opportunity for SSE Riga students to study at a partner University for 3 to 12 months as exchange students, and for teaching staff to deliver lectures for up to 1 week/8 teaching hours at a partner university. Administration can have up to one week of exchange in order to exchange experiences with colleagues at partner institutions.

Higher Education Support Program (HESP)

SSE Riga is also a member of the international Higher Education Support Program (HESP). Inter alia this means that students, faculty, administrative and library staff who are nationals of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Mongolia (the HESP region) can apply for HESP Mobility grants to visit SSE Riga. More information as well as applications forms can be found at the HESP site.
