Description
The role of a Polling Station Commission Members are to ensure that voters are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere. They ensure the efficient running of the polling station including correctly following set voting procedures. In order to maintain the secrecy of the vote and safeguard the integrity of the process, staff must not leave the premises during polling hours.
Tasks:
1. Organise the layout of the polling station, and set up the polling station where necessary;
2. Ensure that all polling station signs and statutory notices are clear, visible and remain in place throughout polling day;
3. Open and close the polling station on time;
4. Instruct and supervise the work of the Poll Clerk(s), including sharing your expertise and knowledge;
5. Issue ballot papers to voters, ensuring that they bear the official mark;
6. Make sure that the proper procedures for voting are followed, including ensuring the checking and marking of electors’ electoral numbers in the register of electors and that the details are recorded on the corresponding number list;
7. Deal with special voting procedures;
8. Ensure that voters cast their vote in secret;
9. Maintain the secrecy of the ballot at all times
